Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Moab, Utah? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Moab?Weather | How much crime? | What are the neighborhoods like? | What are the people like? | Moab's weather is arid and dry. Summers are hot, no doubt about it, with highs often in the low 100's. This little desert town can go months without a drop of rain, depending on the severity of the drought in any given year. No natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, or flooding. Earthquakes are infrequent. Winters are cool and mild, temps drop to freezing, and you often see an inch or two of snow drift down to dust the rocks. | Crime is pretty low in Moab, as it's a town with a population around 5,000 people. Most crime comes in the form of thefts and break-ins. With police not as numerous in the area as in bigger towns, the opportunity for thefts is greater. Also reported is vandalism of private property, as well as of retail outlets and park areas. | The better parts of Moab tend to be toward the northern end of town, near Westwood Dr. and Pallisade Dr, and on through the center of downtown. These streets tend to have beautiful, quaint little homes and well cared for neighborhoods. Public school in the area attracts families with children. Also vacation rentals are common here, normally filled in summer. Less expensive parts of town are near the end of Mill Creek Dr. away from town, where small trailers and ramshackle homes are common. | Moab is rich with diversity, welcoming visitors and tourists from all over the country and even the world. The most common individuals are outdoorsy, active people with a love for adventure and nature. Older retirees or vacationers with deeper pockets are also common. People are relaxed and laid back, open to welcoming a wide variety of new-comers. Someone with a delicate, don't-break-my-nails type personality would be someone who might not mesh quite as well with the rest. | Downtown Area | Restaurants | Schools | Single life | The downtown main street area is a wonderful place to spend the day and shop. Unique boutiques and little shops with western feel are common. It's a great place to find souvenirs and outdoor gear. | Moab brewery brews their own beer and provides a wide array of amazing deli options. Pasta Jay's is a unique Italian place with a hometown feel and excellent service. | There are two public high schools and a handful of public elementary schools in Moab. None of the schools have very many students, but their academic programs are on par with the rest of the country. | There is not a huge dating scene in Moab, although the frequent influx of tourists provides a great variety of people coming through. | Noise | town comparison vs. | Best hospital | Tourist attractions | Excess noise is minimal in Moab. Most of the noise pollution comes from tourist traffic and events such as loud concerts. | The pros and cons of living in any given area are always purely subjective. Living in Moab could be considered preferable to living in St. George, due to the lower cost of living and the drastic decrease in crowds of people, however St. George's shopping and night life are far superior. Living in Moab could also be considered preferable to living in Tropic, where the population is so tiny that very few retail outlets or accommodations exist. | Moab Regional Hospital offers critical care and emergency services. More critical patients are air lifted to St. George. | There are endless great places to visit in Moab. Canyonlands National Park, Sand Flats Recreation Area, and Slick Rock Gorge are all great places to 4x4 and mountain bike. Hiking and whitewater rafting are also popular. | General comments | Moab is an amazing, little-known and under appreciated gem. There is so much to do, see, feel and experience in this outdoor mecca. This town has an adventurous feel, and will really appeal to those who are looking to get out and explore the secrets of deep canyons and slick rock. There's so much to enjoy, from the stunning rock formations to the swirling waters of the Colorado River. |
